Abstract：The mechanical coating technology has been favored by many scholars in the preparation of function‐
al coatings because of its simple equipment and lower cost. At present, mechanical coating technology was main‐
ly used in the preparation of the coatings for surface modification of material and the photocatalytic coatings.
However, the formation and properties of both coatings were affected by many factors. In this paper, the princi‐
ple of mechanical coating technology was summarized, and the factors affecting the formation and properties of
two kinds of coatings were discussed respectively. Finally, based on the limitations of the technology in coating
preparation at present, the future development was prospected.
