Abstract:In order to improve the surface quality and micro-hardness of the steel matrix hard coating, TiC particles reinforced steel matrix hard coating was prepared by in-situ synthesis on the casting surface, and the V-EPC & the SHS reaction were used. The effects of diluents addition on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the steel matrix hard coatings were studied with X-ray, OM, SEM, EDS and hardness tester. The results show that metallurgical bond forms between the hard coatings and the steel matrix. The hard coating is composed of TiC particles and α-Fe matrix. With the increase of TiC addition, the combustion reaction temperature decreases; the coating density improves; the TiC particles are ball or ball-like shape and are evenly distributed in the matrix; and the volume fraction of TiC particles and micro-hardness of the hard coating is increased significantly. The comprehensive properties of the coating are the best with 10% (mass percent) TiC addition.
