Analysis and theoretical verification on microstructure and properties of Al2O3 particle dispersion strengthened Cu alloy prepared by internal oxidation method

Abstract：Al2O3 reinforced copper matrix composites with excellent comprehensive properties were prepared by internal oxidation method using Cu-Al alloy powder as raw material. By observing the microstructure of the sample and testing its tensile properties, the various strengthening mechanisms and quantitative calculation of the comprehensive strengthening effect were analyzed. The results show that Al2O3 dispersed phase particles are uniformly distributed on the Cu matrix, with particle size of about 6 nm and particle spacing of 30-50 nm, and the yield strength of Cu wire after cold drawing reaches 680 MPa. The main strengthening mechanisms are dispersion strengthening and thermal mismatch dislocation strengthening. The uniform distribution of fine Al2O3 particles hinders dislocation movement, and the strengthening effect is remarkable. The experimental value of yield strength is slightly lower than the theoretical value of 692 MPa due to the agglomeration of Al2O3 particles and the existence of various Al2O3 variants.
