Abstract The effect of different Cu3P contents on the microstructure, density, mechanical properties and wear resistance of powder metallurgy valve guide materials were studied. The results show that when the sintering tem‐ perature is 1 135 ℃, and the addition amount of Cu3P is 0.45%, the number of pores in the microstructure is the least, the pore size is small and the distribution is uniform. When the addition amount of Cu3P is 0.45%, the cleavage surface is reduced, the pores are reduced, the dimples are deeper, and the distribution is uniform. At this time, the mechanical properties reach the optimum, and the hardness and tensile strength reach 73. 1HRB and 337.3 MPa, respectively, respectively. The friction and wear experiments show that when the Cu3P content is 0.45%, the iron-based powder metallurgy valve guide material has the smallest wear amount, the smallest friction coefficient, and the best wear resistance.
