Abstract Fe-Si-B-C quaternary Fe-based amorphous compound powder was prepared successfully by water atomization. The particle size distribution, phase structure, morphology, thermal stability and basic soft magnetic properties were then studied. The crystallization process was also investigated using Kissinger’s method. The results indicate that the particle size distribution is reasonable and powders with particle size less than 38 μm are completely amorphous. Spherical particles have homogeneous internal composition, as well as smooth surface. DSC analysis shows that the crystallization temperature of the powders is about 542.15 ℃, and there are two crystallization exothermic peaks during heating process. Crystallization activation energy according to the two crystallization reactions is 463.92 kJ/mol and 910.21 kJ/mol. The saturation magnetic induction intensity and coercivity are 1.08 T and 111.4 A/m, respectively.
