Study of numerical simulation and mechanical properties of hot isostatic pressed titanium alloy powder |

Abstract The deformation and densification of titanium alloy powder were simulated using the finite element analysis software of MSC.MARC. The typical TC4 (Ti-6Al-4V) powder was employed as raw material, the powder was treated by hot isostatic pressing(HIP) technology with numerical simulation as guidelines. Microstructure and mechanical properties of the specimen after hot isostatic pressing were analyzed. The results indicate that the microstructure of powder metallurgy Ti-6Al-4V alloy becomes fine and dense, consisting of lamellar alpha phase and interphase beta phase. Equiaxed α phase is observed in the interface among the particles, thus the powder metallurgy Ti-6Al-4V alloy has equal or higher mechanical properties than forged pieces.
