Abstract The effect of dewaxing process on the performance of diamond bits was studied by comparing dewaxing process with non-dewaxing process. The results show that the density, hardness and bending strength of the cutter head are improved by the dewaxing treatment. For both formulations, the sharpness and life of the dewaxed bit are both improved. Meanwhile, after dewaxing, the content of C and O elements in the cutter head is obviously reduced, and the residue of the granulating agent in the cutter head is reduced, so that the comprehensive performance of the drill bit is improved.
