Abstract Metal injection molding (MIM) powders produced by different preparation processes have their own advantages and disadvantages. The process flow of preparing MIM powder by atomization method and carbonyl method was analyzed. The effects of metal powder density, particle size distribution, chemical composition, morphology and oxygen content on MIM process were mainly introduced. It was pointed out that it is one of the key directions of MIM development in the future to master the production process and performance of powder in the process of powder selection and application so as to give full play to its greatest advantages in subsequent products.
