Abstract In the recent decades, the comprehensive advancements in new material, new process and new equipment have together promoted the additive manufacturing (AM) technology and industry. Focusing on the utilization of AM in metal manufacturing, this article summarizes the progresses in the mainstream direct-metal and in-direct-metal printing technologies, that include Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), Binder Jetting (BJ), Directed Fusion Deposition (DFD), Selective Laser Melting (SLM) and Directed Energy Deposition (DED), etc.
