Effects of temper rolling rate on the microstructure, texture and magnetic properties of Fe-6.5%Si thin strip

Abstract:A Fe-6.5%Si steel thin strip with a final thickness of 0.50 mm was produced by twin-roll continuous casting-warm rolling-intermediate annealing-temper rolling-final annealing process. The effects of temper rolling rate on microstructure, texture and magnetic properties of the annealing strips were investigated with optical microscopy, X-ray diffraction and magnetic measurement. The results show that the average grain size of the annealing strips decreases gradually with increasing temper rolling rate, and the size difference between the grains decreases. When the temper rolling rate is larger than 12%, the surface texture of the annealing strips is λ texture and the obvious γ texture appears in the middle of the strips, its intensity increases with decreasing temper rolling rate. When the temper rolling rate is lower than 12%, the distribution of texture is dispersed. The magnetic induction of the annealing strips decreases firstly and then increases with increasing temper rolling rate. With the increase of temper rolling rate, the low-frequency iron loss decreases rapidly first and then increases slowly. The high-frequency iron loss decreases gradually with increasing temper rolling rate. The research work was useful to develop electrical steel by twin roll continuous casting process.
