Abstract:The effect of various solution treating temperatures on the microstructure and mechanical properties of a martensitc ultra-high strength stainless steel was studied by methods of optical microscope, electron microscope and so on. The results indicated that in the range of solution temperatures, the dissolution behavior of M6C carbide is critical to the final mechanical properties. Steel solution treated between 1 000-1 050 ℃ was preferred for its best combination of mechanical properties due to rational austenite grain size and degree of supersaturation of martensite resulting from certain fraction of undissolved carbide.
