The defect analysis of Finemet type iron- based amorphous ribbons

Abstract:The defects in the Finemet type amorphous ribbons with a width of less than 40 mm produced by a single- roller melt spinning method are investigated. It is found that the ribbons will become brittle if the cooling capacity of copper roller and other cooling system are instability; and the dim color, bad quality of edge, stripes, holes and other defects will generate on the free surface of ribbons when the ceramic spray nozzle is thermal etched by the high- temperature melt, the flatness of roller is varied, or the liquid level in the tundish is too low, and so on. However, all these defects can be improved or eliminated by the optimized technologies.
