Abstract:Based on thermodynamics and kinetics analysis for preparation of metallic ytterbium by the process of lanthanum thermal reduction,preliminary process parameters were determined。By using ytterbium oxide(99.99% purity)as raw material,with electrolytic metal lanthanum of fluoride salt-oxide system as reducing agent,vacuum carbon tube furnace as reaction device,by self-produced receiving device,on vacuum degree<10-2Pa,ytterbium was obtained after one distillation in 1180℃.The results show that metal ytterbium purity(Yb/TRE) was 99.99%,Prepared with the ytterbium metal yield more than 97.84%。Compared with the one time reduction distillation,lanthanum impurity deceased by about 96.5%,the yield of rare earth increased by 4.48%。
