Thermodynamics analysis of SiC prepared by carbothermic method

Abstract:Thermodynamics analysis of silicon carbide prepared by carbothermic method was introduced. Through the thermodynamics calculating, the effects of CO partial pressure, particle size and mixing uniformity of SiO2 and C particles on the preparation of SiC were studied. The results demonstrate that, reducing partial pressure of CO can effectively increase the tendency of SiC formation. The particle size and mixing uniformity of SiO2 and C particles is quite important for carbothermic reduction reaction of SiC. The morphology of SiC particles can be controlled by adjusting the temperature and CO gas partial pressure.
