Study on friction and wear properties of multivariate ceramics/Cu composite |

Abstract Copper-matrix friction material with SiC, Si3N4 and B4C multivariate ceramic particles was fabricated by powder metallurgy through vacuum sintering technology. Wear resistance of the composites were studied on MRH-3 wear testing machine. The effect of SiC, Si3N4 and B4C multivariate ceramic was studied. The results show that the composites have high heat resistance, wear resistance and bending strength, etc. Hardness, bending strength and wear resistance of the composite increase firstly and then decrease with the ceramic particles content increasing when the mass percent of ceramic is 15%, 25% and 35%. The friction coefficient is stable at around 0.49, which is not affected apparently by temperature fluctuations. The addition of ceramic particles has some influence on the thermal conductivity, thus the wear resistance is also affected.
