Abstract The phase evolution in the reduction of TiO2-WO3-NiO-C mixtures was investigated using SEM,TGDSC
and X-ray diffraction analysis. Results show that Ni is reduced from partial NiO in the mixture. Stable NiWO4
solid solution is formed at lower temperatures with combination of WO3 and NiO. With the increasing of temperature,
NiWO4 is reduced to Ni and WC. The crystal structure of TiO2 is transformed from anatase to rutile. When
TiC is formed,(Ti,W)C solid solution is synthesized by TiC and WC.
