Abstract Rare earth elements exist in minerals in the form of co-associated state. LaCe accounts for 73% in the
north rare earth ore and LaY accounts for 50% in the south rare earth ore associated with heavy rare earth. Massive
high abundance La/Ce/Y rare earth was not used when extracting Pr、Nd from ore. Therefore, fabrication and application
of the high abundance rare-earth permanent magnets are important for balanced utilization of Chines rareearth
resource. Herein, the fabrication and properties of high abundance rare-earth permanent magnets, were summarized
and the controlling technique on microstructure and properties of the La/Ce/Y containing magnets were
introduced. Finally, the development of high abundance rare-earth permanent magnets is discussed and prospected.
