Chemical reactions in the preparation of B4C-Al composites |

Abstract The B
4C-Al composites were prepared by mechanical alloying and microwave sintering. The chemical
reactions and products of B4C and Al at 20~1 500 ℃ were studied by DSC and X-ray diffraction analysis. The
phase composition of the composites was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron mi‐
croscopy. The results show that the reaction products of B4C and Al are Al3BC and AlB2 at 625~690 ℃; the products of B
4C and Al are Al4C3 and AlB12C2 at 1 150~1 185 ℃; the reaction product of B4C and Al is AlB12C2 at
1 320~1 350 ℃.
