Abstract The 2A12 aluminum alloy powder specimens were prepared by hot isostatic pressing with a square canning. The deformation of canning, mechanical properties and fracture morphology of 2A12 aluminum alloy powder specimens were studied. Results show that mechanical properties of the specimens are lower than those of forged samples, the fracture mechanism is brittle fracture; the surface oxides inhibit the diffusion bonding among the powder particles; and the bonding strength in the powder interface is low, thus the samples are fractured from the interface.
