Abstract The effect of fishscale and surface roughness on magnetic properties of Fe-based amorphous wide ribbons was investigated. Core loss and exciting power of the ribbon are reduced 50%-100% with fishscale. The ribbon has higher core loss and exciting power as the surface roughness increases.
