Abstract The cladding layer with TiC/TiB2 structure was prepared by combining electromagnetic field and laser
in situ treatment. The results show that the corresponding diffraction peaks of α-Ti and TiB are formed in the cladding
layer before and after the implementation of electromagnetic field. After being affected by the electromagnetic
field, the cladding layer containing only TiB is formed, which forms a longer needle-like structure and no granular
structure. The cladding layer achieves a higher hardness than the matrix. When the upward lorentz force is set, the
micro-hardness of the cladding layer is equal to 620HV. When a downward lorentz force is formed, the microhardness
of the cladding layer is equal to 550HV. Under the action of steady state magnetic field, only needle-shaped
and rod-shaped tissues were formed in the cladding layer, and the induced lorentz force obtained under the action
of steady state magnetic field could not have a great influence on the network structure of the cladding layer.
