Abstract ZL116 alloy is widely used in the preparation of complex parts with high-strength and corrosion-resis‐
tant in the aerospace field. With the development of equipment towards integration and multi-function, traditional
casting processes cannot meet the requirements for the preparation of such parts. Additive manufacturing processes,
represented by selective laser melting (SLM), based on the principle of discrete-stacking, have significant
advantages in the preparation of complex parts. Currently, there is limited research on the microstructure and
mechanical properties of ZL116 alloy fabricated by SLM. In this paper, the microstructure and mechanical proper‐
ties of ZL116 by selective laser melting were studied, which provided theoretical support for the forming of ZL116
complex parts by SLM. ZL116 alloy samples were fabricated by SLM. The microstructure, mechanical properties
and fatigue properties of samples have been investigated via optical microscope (OM) and scanning electron micro‐
scope (SEM), etc. The results reveal that: (1) the microstructure of alloys are columnar crystal with epitaxial
growth from bottom to top, and fine silicon particles are dispersed on the grain boundary; (2) the mechanical
properties of the alloy are anisotropic, and the tensile properties parallel to the forming direction are poor; (3) the
maximum tensile strength, elongation, hardness and fatigue strength of alloys are 340 MPa, 13.1%, 110 HB and
185 MPa, respectively.
