Abstract The preparation process of SiCp/Al composite by powder metallurgy was described in detail， including powder mixing process (such as ball-to-powder?ratio， milling time， milling?speed)， cold compaction(such as compaction pressure， pressure-holding?time， standing time， etc.)， degassing (such as degassing method)， heat densification(such as vacuum hot-pressing， pressureless sintering and hot extrusion， powder hot extrusion)， etc. The effects of reinforcement (SiCp) size and interface on the properties of SiCp/Al composites and the strengthening mechanism of the composites were briefly introduced. Finally the development direction of SiCp/Al composites was forecasted.
