Study on torsional properties and energy absorption capability of square tubes filled with high specific strength aluminum foam |

Abstract The torsional and energy absorption properties of square tubes filled with aluminum foam before and after high temperature heating were studied. The results show that the torsion curve of steel tubes filled with aluminum foam is similar to that of room temperature after high temperature heating, which is divided into four stages. The energy absorption curve is almost linear before and after high temperature heating. After heating at a maximum temperature of 1 000 ℃, the torsional carrying capacity and energy absorption capacity of steel tubes filled with aluminum foam both decrease significantly.
