Abstract With the rapid development and application of additive manufacturing and powder metallurgy technology,
the demand for metal powder is increasing. Compared with other powder preparation process, metal powders
prepared by plasma rotation electrode process (PREP) have obvious advantages in powder characteristics, which
make them ideal forming materials for additive manufacturing and powder metallurgy. The development status of
PREP technology domestic and abroad was introduced, the key technical characteristics were analyzed, and then
the future development of PREP technology was prospected.
