Abstract The Effect of different content Al-Sr modifier microstructure and property of Al-18Mg2Si alloys are investigated. The results show that the size of Mg2Si phase decreases with increasing Al-Sr modifier content, and the variation between cross linking Mg2Si and square Mg2Si is found. But the change is only the morphology, size and distribution, and the phase structure is still Al, Mg2Si without variations. After Al-Sr modification, the hardness, strength and elongation are better than that of property value in literature. When the content of modifer is 0.2%, the strength is highest; when the content of modifer is 0.6%, the elongation is highest.
