Abstract：The 30%SiCp/6082Al (volume percent) composite for vehicle braking was prepared by powder metallurgy technology. The effect of sintering temperature on the microstructure and properties of the composite was studied. The results show that uniform SiC particles are distributed in the matrix of 30%SiCp/6082Al composite material, and the Si content increases with the increase of sintering temperature. After sintering, various reaction products such as Si, Mg2Si, SiO2, etc. are formed in the composite material. With the increase of sintering temperature, the density of the composite material increases firstly and then decreases. After sintering at 700 ℃, the bending strength of the composite material reaches the highest value of 364 MPa. There are many tiny pores with different shapes in the cross-sectional area of the composites sintered at 650 ℃, and most SiC particles show cleavage fracture characteristics. As the sintering temperature increases, the number of pores decreases and gradually changes into a more uniform spherical structure, and nearly all SiC particles show cleavage fracture characteristics.
