Study on expansion and influence factors of diffusion CuSn10 powder compacts during sintering |

Abstract Four groups of partial alloyed CuSn10 powders were prepared though diffusion technique with atomized copper and tin powder as material, and then the powder were pressed and sintered. The reason of expansion and influence of powder particle size for the sintered compacts were studied. The results show that four groups of compacts all expand. The main reasons are: Atomized powder has near spherical shape, which contributes to less porosity; The Sn-rich area turns into liquid phase after Sn melting, and diffuses to the inside of copper particle, as a result, copper lattice grows up and vacancy forms at the original place of tin; Liquid tin fills into the gap of copper powders; The air pressure existing in the inclosed holes increases with the sintering temperature increasing, which causes to volume expansion. The expansion rate of CuSn10 increases with the raw material particle size increasing. The effect of Sn on the expansion rate of the CuSn10 is about three times that of Cu powder.
