Abstract The properties and applications of transition metal nitride and chromium nitride powder were presented. Specially， the development of different preparation methods of micro/nano chromium nitride powder was reviewed and the advantages and disadvantages of these methods were estimated. Further development of synthesis methods for chromium nitride in the future was also suggested.
