Effects of different kinds of graphite and carbon fiber on the properties of copper-based powder metallurgy friction materials |

Abstract The effects of natural graphite, dense graphite and their mixture with 0.1% (mass percent) carbon fiber on the tribological properties of copper-based powder metallurgy friction materials were studied. The results show that graphite can form a lubricant film on the friction surface, and the graphite film generated by natural graphite is more stable. Under the condition of low-speed friction, the friction coefficient is increased by 8.5% when dense graphite is mixed with carbon fiber, and the heat dissipation effect of the material is improved. Compared with dense graphite, the friction coefficient of natural graphite is basically the same, and the friction temperature rise is reduced by 1~3 ℃.
