Abstract Niobium oxide powder which can be used for preparing a target material was prepared by adopting a reduction deoxidization process of pickling and impurity removal, hydrofluoric acid dissolution, ammonia precipitation, water washing and filtration, spray drying, and then high-temperature calcination in hydrogen. The dehydration, deoxidation, phase structure, particle size and morphology of the product were studied by differential thermal analysis, XRD, TEM, particle size distribution test and other methods. At the same time, the purity, tap density and oxygen content of the powder were tested. The results show that the product has spherical particles, good fluidity, purity above 99.96% (mass percent), tap density of 1.88 g/cm3, oxygen loss of 3.4% of the total oxygen content in the powder, which meets the quality requirements of target materials, and proves the feasibility of the process.
