Abstract According to the different carbon content, ferrochrome is mainly divided into high-carbon ferrochrome (containing 4.00%-8.00% carbon), medium-carbon ferrochrome (containing 0.50%-4.00% carbon) and low-carbon ferrochrome (containing 0.15% -0.50% carbon) ( all in mass percent). Among them, medium and low carbon ferrochrome are important raw materials for atomized powder. The development status of medium and low carbon ferrochrome preparation at home and abroad were mainly summarized, the advantages and disadvantages of traditional preparation methods were analyzed, and the preparation of medium and low carbon ferrochrome by direct reduction and microwave heating technology, as well as some influencing factors in the preparation process, such as reduction temperature, reduction time, reducing agent, alkalinity, particle size and other influencing factors on metallization rate and heating rate were mainly introduced. The development direction and research prospect of medium and low carbon ferrochrome preparation were also prospected.
