Abstract Mo5Si3-Al2O3 composite was prepared by mechano-chemical reduction method and consolidated by hot pressing. The oxidation behavior of the composites at 600 ℃ was investigated. The results show that nano-scale Mo5Si3-Al2O3 composite is synthesized with MoO3, Mo, Si and Al powders as starting materials by mechanical milling for 10 h. The relative density and hardness of the Mo5Si3-Al2O3 composite reach 97.2% and 1 350 HV, respectively, higher than pure Mo5Si3. The addition of Al2O3 in the Mo5Si3 can effectively restrain its pest oxidation. Compared with Mo5Si3 alloy, the oxidation resistances of Mo5Si3-Al2O3 composite is remarkably improved and the oxidation behavior of the composite exhibits a similar parabolic law.
