Abstract The working surface precision of iron-based powder metallurgy parts after pressing and sintering is difficult
to meet the use requirements, so it needs to be machined properly to ensure its accuracy and surface roughness.
However, in the process of cutting, it is found that the tool wear is serious and the service life is not high. Frequent
tool change affects the production efficiency. In order to select suitable cutting tools for production, the traditional
tool testing method based on experience has great defects, high cost and unstable test results, which hinders enterprises
from organizing efficient and low-cost production in practice. In order to solve the difficulties of tool selection
and application in production, this paper uses deform according to its cutting performance and cutting parameters
of turning tools The temperature and wear area of iron-based powder metallurgy parts in the cutting process are
analyzed in details by 3D simulation. The wear performance of the tool used is observed in the experiment. The
simulation data and experimental results are compared and analyzed to provide practical basis for selecting suitable
machining tools.
