Abstract A gas atomization spherical Fe-Si alloy magnetic powder was coated by a delaminated kaolin gel to realize its surface electrical insulation, and then Fe-Si magnetic powder core was prepared by the processes of powder forming and following heat treatment. The effect of the amount of kaolin insulating coating agent used on performance of the obtained Fe-Si magnetic powder core were investigated. The results show that when the dos‐ age of kaolin used increases from 0.8% to 1. 8%, the effective permeability μe of the Fe-Si magnetic powder core decreases from 65. 2 to 45. 5; when the dosage of kaolin is gradually increased, its quality factor Q value rises first and then drops, and the power loss Pcv and Q value show an opposite trend. When the kaolin coating agent ac‐ counts for 1. 4%, the Pcv reaches the minimum value of 419 mW/cm3, and the Q value does the value of 158.8. Compared with that using traditional phosphating insulation treatment, the Fe-Si magnetic powder core in this work shows significantly improved magnetic performance in terms of quality factor Q value and power loss Pcv.
