Abstract The physical and mechanical properties of ceramic reinforced particles were introduced, and the advantages, disadvantages and application status of some typical preparation techniques for ceramic particles reinforced iron matrix composites were reviewed with emphasis. As for the complex influencing factors for ceramic particles reinforced iron matrix composites, it is pointed out that the combination of existing preparation techniques and computer simulation is an important development direction in the future for the preparation of iron matrix composites.
