Abstract:With the development of electrode materials and battery technology, the performance of nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries have been improved obviously. Based on the thermodynamic characteristics and the electrode kinetics of the key materials, the basic design guidelines and optimization strategies have been proposed. Combined with the R&D progress of various types of NiMH batteries, including high energy, high power, wide temperature range, low cost and low selfdischarge batteries from the industrial circle and academia, the development of the key electrode materials and battery technology have been summarized. And finally the development trends of the next advanced NiMH battery and its application prospect are pointed out.
