Optimizing design of mould and compacting process on VVT rotor using
numerical simulations

Abstract:The VVT inner rotor is an essential part of the automobile engine. As one of the automobile transmission
parts, it is required to own high matching accuracy and mechanical performance requirements. Based on the
powder continuum, this paper used finite element deform software to simulate and analyze the compact density of
the VVT inner rotor under different mold designs and pressing process schemes. The simulation data was used to
optimize the mold and improve the pressing process to improve the uniformity of the density distribution of the
green compact, so that the VVT inner rotor was manufactured by the advanced method of powder metallurgy net
forming and meets its requirements for accuracy, density, and performance.
