Study on microstructure and mechanical properties of powder metallurgy high manganese non-magnetic Fe-25Mn-xCu-C steels

Abstract:In order to study the influence of copper content on the microstructure and properties of powder metallurgy high manganese non-magnetic steel, high manganese pre-alloyed powder Fe-25Mn-C and electrolytic copper powder were used to prepare test sample by PM process. The microstructure and tensile properties of the sintered materials were tested. The results show that the microstructure of sintered sample is austenite, copper phase, FeCu4 phase, Fe3Mn7 phase and pores. When the copper content changes from 5% to 20% (mass percent), with the increase of copper content, the density of high manganese non-magnetic steel increases, while the tensile strength and elongation of the sample first increase and then decrease, both reaching the peak values at 15% copper content, which are 645 MPa and 14.88% respectively.
