Abstract:Red mud is a solid waste residue produced in the process of alumina smelting. With the accumulation of
a large amount of red mud, it has caused great harm to the environment. At the same time, red mud has high poten‐
tial utilization value. Based on this background, the basic properties of red mud were introduced, the market of
product reduced iron powder was briefly analyzed, and the research status of red mud coal-based direct reduction
technology for producing iron powder was expounded in detail. These techniques include rotary kiln coal-based di‐
rect reduction technology, rotary hearth furnace coal-based direct reduction technology, tunnel kiln coal-based di‐
rect reduction technology and shaft furnace coal-based direct reduction technology. The advantages and disadvan‐
tages of the above technologies in the field of iron powder production by red mud reduction and the factors that
need to be considered when choosing a suitable process are summarized, providing a reference for the subsequent
research on red mud production iron powder technology.
