Effects of Ga addition on the anti- tarnishing property of 925 silver alloys

Abstract:Alloying is an important approach to prevent silver alloys from tarnishing. By means of metallographic analysis, color measurement and hardness test, the effect of the addition of gallium on the surface anti- tarnishing property of silver was studied. The results showed that the addition of 0. 5%(mass fraction) gallium to the 925 silver can effectively improve the anti- tarnishing property of silver alloy, The addition of Ga will soft the alloy due to the formation of coarse precipitate. So Ga addition should not exceed 0. 5%( mass fraction).
